Welcome!
I’m Kimberly, a writer, educator, and researcher who has spent almost two decades studying pop culture and ancient cultures and exploring histories that show how underrepresented groups endure, celebrate, and lead (through the arts, literature, food, and other aspects of media and culture) during important inflection points in history. Born to a family of immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Northern Virginia, I am fascinated by stories of national identity, belonging, and unbelonging.
I am also a lifelong passion for food and fashion, thanks to growing up with a grandmother who owned a custom design clothing store during the day and cooked simmering pots of stewed chicken and other savory meals at night. Exploring food and fashion feels like coming home.
As an associate director at Georgetown University, I focus on higher education access and affordability. I also write for the Georgetown Magazine, a publication of Georgetown University highlighting stories about students, faculty, and alumni. I have a PhD in English Literature from George Washington University and a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Georgetown University.
